Things to know before booking your Eiffel Tower tickets

Choose your view: Summit vs. the Second Floor

  • The second-floor tickets give you access to the 1st and 2nd floors of the tower. A more affordable choice, it is perfect for those who want to enjoy panoramic views of Paris without the higher price or longer wait times associated with the summit. Plus, at 115 meters (377 feet) above ground, the second floor offers panoramic views of Paris that are stunning yet less intimidating for those who might have a fear of heights.
  • On the other hand, the summit tickets provide access to all three levels: the 1st, 2nd, and summit floors. The summit, being the tallest observation point in Europe, offers breathtaking views of Paris and its iconic landmarks, making it well worth the upgrade.
  • Note: Summit access is only available via elevator from the 2nd floor and requires a separate ticket.

Getting to the top: Stairs or the elevator?

  • For a more budget-friendly and physically engaging option, choose the stairs ticket. Climbing 674 steps to the 2nd floor provides a close-up view of the tower’s intricate ironwork and is ideal for those looking to avoid crowds and seeking a bit of adventure.
  • For a more relaxed visit, the elevator is the most popular choice, especially during peak times. To reach this floor, you must take a separate elevator from the 2nd floor. If you’re feeling ambitious, consider combining both experiences: climb to the 2nd floor via the stairs, then take the elevator to the summit.

Streamline your visit: hosted entry & guided tours

  • If you’re interested in learning about the tower’s history and architecture, a guided tour is a great investment. These tours are led by expert guides who provide insights, all the while pointing out unique features of the tower.
  • Prefer to explore at your own pace? Hosted entry allows you to navigate the security and ticket counters with the help of a guide, who will ensure you have a smooth entry to either the 2nd floor or the summit.

Dining with a view

  • Enhance your visit with a meal at the casual yet chic Madame Brasserie on the first floor. This ticket includes a dedicated entry line to the elevator so you can bypass the long queues easily. You can opt for a lunch or a dinner experience.
  • However, dining reservations do not include access to higher levels like the second floor or summit, but you are free to explore the first floor after your meal.

When to book tickets?

To ensure you get your preferred time slot, it’s best to secure your Eiffel Tower tickets online as early as possible—ideally 60 days in advance, especially if you plan to visit the summit.

Frequently asked questions about Eiffel Tower tickets

What happens if I arrive late for my scheduled entry time?

Eiffel Tower tickets are timed, which means each ticket comes with a specific entry time, which you must adhere to in order to gain access to the tower. It's important to arrive on time (or even 15 minutes earlier), as missing your scheduled entry slot may mean that you won’t be able to enter the tower.

Why do I need hosted entry to the Eiffel Tower?

With a guide to lead you, you'll navigate the often long and confusing queues, which can be especially daunting given the crowds at Trocadéro and the multiple entrances to the tower. Your guide not only helps you navigate these challenges but also ensures you get quick access to either the 2nd floor or the summit, depending on your ticket choice. This means you’ll spend less time finding your way around and more time admiring the breathtaking views of Paris. Plus, your guide will share fascinating stories and insights about the Eiffel Tower, enriching your experience as you explore this iconic landmark.

Does my ticket to the summit of the Eiffel include access to the 1st and 2nd floors?

Yes, a summit ticket includes access to both the 1st and 2nd floors, providing a complete experience of the Eiffel Tower.

If I bought a ticket to the second floor, but want to visit the top of the Eiffel Tower as well, is it included in my option?

No, 2nd-floor tickets don’t include summit access. However, you can upgrade your ticket for a full experience that includes the summit.

Should I take the stairs or the elevator to the top?

If you're looking for a challenge and a more budget-friendly option, climbing the 674 steps to the 2nd floor offers a unique perspective and a sense of accomplishment. For a more relaxed experience, especially if it's your first visit, the elevator to the summit is ideal, offering unmatched panoramic views of Paris.

Is the summit worth the extra cost?

Absolutely. While the summit access requires an upgrade, it offers unparalleled views of Paris and a closer look at Gustave Eiffel’s private office. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those wanting to see the city from its highest point.

Can I book exclusive tickets to visit the Champagne Bar at the summit?

No, there are no dedicated tickets for the Champagne Bar. However, access to the bar is included with your summit ticket, where you can purchase a drink while enjoying the view.

I'm visiting with my family, and we prefer a more relaxed experience. Which ticket should I choose?

For families, a ticket with elevator access to the 2nd floor is ideal. It offers stunning views without the physical exertion of climbing stairs. Adding a Seine River cruise can provide a relaxing end to your visit.

What should I consider if I'm afraid of heights?

If you’re concerned about heights, you might want to avoid the summit or dining experiences, which involve elevator rides and high vantage points. Stick to the 1st or 2nd floors for a less intimidating experience.

How long does it take to visit the tower?

Plan on spending around 1.5 to 2.5 hours for your visit. Reaching the second level typically takes about 1.5 hours, while visiting the summit can take up to 2.5 hours. Climbing the stairs will add some extra time.

Can I visit the Eiffel Tower at night?

Yes, the Eiffel Tower is open late into the evening, offering a magical experience with the city illuminated below. Night visits are popular for their stunning views of Paris lit up, and the Tower sparkles with thousands of lights every hour on the hour. It’s a great way to avoid daytime crowds and see the city in a different light.

The meeting point was clearly communicated and the tour operators were organized and knew what they were doing. It seemed a little excessive to be there 30 minutes before tour time but it wasn't as we were there at opening and the lines were forming quickly. They kept us all together and explained the entry process well, including two different security/bag checks. The skip-the-line was helpful as tower security helped ensure that our group was able to proceed and they detained people trying to move ahead without that option. Sharon was our group guide and she was very knowledgeable and kept up with all of us even while she explained all the history of the tower. It was a great experience and I recommend Experience First for your tours. And be sure to book tickets to the Summit (by elevator). It's awesome up there.
